From Bolton to the Fast Lane: My Motorsport Technology Journey at the 私人午夜福利 Manchester

I鈥檓 Ewan Bagot, a final-year Motorsport Technology student at the 私人午夜福利 Manchester. My journey into this exciting field began long before I arrived here鈥攂ack in 2008 when a young Lewis Hamilton claimed his first Formula 1 World Championship. I was hooked from that moment on.
My decision to study Motorsport Technology felt like a natural progression. While I was still applying for a Motor Vehicle course at Bolton College, I watched the impressive National Centre for Motorsport Engineering (NCME) take shape right in my hometown. I knew then that this was where I wanted to be.
A University That Feels Like Home
What stood out immediately when I started my degree was the atmosphere. Unlike many larger universities, the 私人午夜福利 Manchester offers smaller class sizes鈥攕omething I鈥檝e really valued. It creates a more personal, supportive learning environment where lecturers feel more like mentors or even friends. They鈥檝e encouraged me to pursue projects I鈥檓 passionate about and given me the space to grow and explore my interests.
Industry-Standard Facilities & Real-World Opportunities
The facilities available to us as students are exceptional. From the race car workshop to the composites and machine shops, there鈥檚 no limit to what we can build, design, and test. This hands-on experience is what sets this course apart.
Early in my studies鈥攄uring my foundation year鈥擨 had the incredible opportunity to work with a British GT motorsport team. I wasn鈥檛 just watching from the sidelines鈥擨 was in the pit lane, part of the team, and even got to visit the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium. Standing at the bottom of Eau Rouge and looking up was a moment I鈥檒l never forget. Winning the final race of that season made the experience even more unforgettable.
Back on campus, I joined the University鈥檚 Formula Student team and played a key role in getting our first car through the challenging scrutineering process and into competition. That project taught me not only technical skills but also teamwork, perseverance, and problem-solving in high-pressure environments.
Academic Challenges with Real Rewards
Like any engineering course, Motorsport Technology is challenging. The workload can be intense at times, but the support from lecturers and the thrill of seeing your hard work pay off make it all worthwhile. There鈥檚 something incredibly rewarding about getting feedback on an assignment you鈥檝e poured your heart into.
For my final-year project, I鈥檓 working on the design of a 2026 Formula One rear wing in collaboration with renowned aerodynamicist Willem Toet. It鈥檚 been a privilege to learn from someone with such a rich background in F1, and this project has deepened my understanding of aerodynamics and CFD testing鈥攕kills that are essential for a future career in motorsport.
Looking Ahead
This university might not be the only place in the UK offering a Motorsport degree鈥攂ut I would recommend it to anyone passionate about racing, engineering, or automotive design. The combination of expert staff, excellent facilities, and strong industry links creates an environment where students can thrive.
In my four years here, I鈥檝e learned so much鈥攂oth as a student and as a person. I鈥檓 leaving this course confident, inspired, and ready to take the next step, whether that鈥檚 a master鈥檚 degree or a role within the world of motorsport.
