There are several sources of funding available specifically for disabled students to help with study-related support, living costs, tuition fees and study grants.
DSA eligibility and support will be determined by your funding body. Please see our DSA page (link) for further information. Please note, the information presented applies to students whose funding body is (SFE). Remember to check specific eligibility criteria for , , and before you apply.
PIP (Personal Independence Payment) is a UK government benefits plan designed to help cover the extra costs of living with a disability or long-term health condition. It covers help with extra costs associated with your disability, such as daily living tasks like cooking, washing, managing money, and mobility support. You can apply for PIP . Please note, the Disability Service cannot support with PIP applications. Your local NHS service, or some charities such as might be able to help you apply for PIP.
On top of your student finance maintenance loan, you may also be eligible for a special support maintenance loan. Please check specific eligibility criteria in , , and before you apply.
Disabled students from the EU or overseas studying in the UK may be able to access several sources of support available depending on nationality, immigration status, and the type of course.
There are a number of charitable trusts and organisations that award grants to disabled students in higher education. Please search for these grants on and . UK, EU and overseas students may be eligible.
